If you like critically panned, odd musicals, have you seen Streets of Fire?
It's such a strange movie: I think it's gained a bit of a cult following, mostly for what it was trying to do, rather than what it actually achieved. It's weird and disappointing and you can sort of glimpse a brilliant ambition behind it, even if the end result is utter tosh. It features a young Rick Moranis, a young Willem Dafoe, a young Diane Lane, a young Bill Paxton.
It has one catchy song, and it's in the first five minutes of the film - I think that if the movie had lived up to its energetic opener, it would have been a deserved classic, rather than the massive flop it was.
Anyhow. Streets of Fire. Totally bonkers, but weirdly hypnotic and full of wasted potential.
Here's the one song I like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arxD3Ro9mAk
