Musical Monday #41 and #42

If you have been playing close attention,

You will have noticed that last week there was no Musical Monday.

This is because I had a mysterious illness that I won’t go into too much, by which I mean

other than to say it involved for half a day a) unpleasant toilet experience, b) desperate need to vomit, c) learning the fact that my body can’t vomit unless it is warm, and then for three days after this d) unhappy stomach and intestines that were no longer interested in actually digesting food and therefore e) being exhausted from no nutrients.

So today, to make up for last week, it’s a Musical Monday double bill.  I usually try to go for something themed, but I’m not picking musical numbers about being sick.  So instead the theme will be… drag (well, sort of).  Coz, y’know, drag, baby.

Musical Monday #41
 Le Jazz Hot from Victor/Victoria
Performed by Julie Andrews, written by Henry Mancini and Leslie Bricusse

Musical Monday #42

Men In Tights from Robin Hood: Men In Tights
written by Mel Brooks

What musical numbers have you seen recently?

Thanks for totally not going into it. *barf*

    1. Thanks for totally ignoring the illustration. Not going into too much means no illustrated guide. I CAN do an illustrated guide if you like.

  2. Well, oddly enough the last musical sequence I watched was also a drag number, albeit a rather lame one:

(I thought the Marsupilami movie was actually pretty good fun, but this particular sequence was a bit behind the times / not really funny)

Meanwhile, on toilet-based musical numbers, British talent to the rescue:

    1. Okay, what, there was a Marsupilami movie? I'm only vaguely aware of Marsupilami in that it replaced the Timon and Pumbaa cartoon I watched on Saturday mornings back in the 90s. However, your drag number is much better than mine. I don't particularly like Victor/Victoria because the whole story revolves around a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman - so her boyfriend has to pretend to be gay. It would be much more interesting if she was just a man pretending to be a woman and her boyfriend actually was gay. And the men in tights one obviously goes for really cheap laughs as if there is something wrong with men wearing whatever the hell they like. Your one seems to be a) funny, in that I presume the guards genuinely think that's Celine Dion when it's clearly a man with a moustache, and b) it's a guy in a dress being sexy, no gender reinforcement? If so, then it seems all right. Apart from the music.

I don't find bodily functions funny though, so I think I'll give the second one a skip.
